First look: The Stockholm Manual
28 August 2025The IHL Centre is excited to share a first look at The Stockholm Manual: A Practitioner’s Guide to Conducting IHL Assessments and Advocacy.
The Manual is the product of years of research, reflection, and collaboration. The piloting phase confirmed a critical gap: humanitarian actors lacked comprehensive, practical guidance on how to use international humanitarian law (IHL) in their advocacy.
The Stockholm Manual aims to address this issue by helping humanitarian practitioners, journalists and other key humanitarian stakeholders understand both the potential and limits of IHL advocacy. It provides step-by-step guidance for assessing respect for IHL and shows how such analysis can inform more effective advocacy to protect civilians in conflict.
With thanks to ECHO and SIDA for their support, we look forward to publishing and formally launching the Manual in September. In the meantime, watch this short presentation video to learn more.
