Regional Manager for Latin America

Period: 2 years (with possibile extension up to 5 years)
Planned starting date: August 2017
The Regional Manager for Latin America guides Diakonias work in the region, and bears overall responsibility for the strategic and political relevance, quality, efficiency, effectiveness and control of all Diakonias work in the region and for the Regional Office in Bogota, Colombia.
The Regional Manager formally represents Diakonia at the regional level. The Latin American region consists of country offices in Bolivia, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, along with regional programs.
Diakonia is a decentralised organization with delegation from Head Office to the Regional Office and from the Regional Office to the Country Offices. The Regional Manager reports to the International Manager at Head Office and the Country Managers report to the Regional Manager.
Description of tasks
Officially represent Diakonia, taking an active part in strategic discussions on development and human rights in the region that aim to demonstrate Diakonia’s added value in development cooperation to Swedish and national authorities, back-donors and partner organizations, as well as to other stakeholders.
Manage, develop and coordinate the region’s operations on the basis of established guidelines, policy, strategy, budget and other steering documents and within the geographical area.
Be the employer’s representative with managerial responsibility, including responsibility for staff and the working environment, with an emphasis on gender equality.
Establish and strengthen programmes, processes and networking, manage existing contracts and develop Diakonia´s fundraising in the region.
Ensure the region’s compliance with the project management system, the PME handbook and Diakonia’s other IT-based systems.
Qualifications and experience
Proven skills and experience in managerial and human resources leadership
Training and experience in gender equality work, both internally and in operations.
Proven skills and experience in strategic planning and managing of development programmes, as well as in budgeting and budget follow-up.
Excellent knowledge of development cooperation and experience in networking, donor relations and negotiations.
Excellent knowledge and experience of the social, political and cultural context in the region.
Excellent spoken and written Spanish, English and Swedish.
Experience in IT-based project management and managerial systems
Experience in working with civil society organizations in Latin America and Sweden.
Committed to working with a rightsbased approach, including indigenous rights, SRHR and LGBTI rights.
Knowledge of Diakonia’s thematic areas (Democracy, Human Rights, Gender, Social and Economic Justice, Conflict and Justice and Humanitarian Action).

Humanitarian training and experience
