Our Partners

In order to raise public awareness on the basic rules of international humanitarian law (IHL) as well as to monitor IHL violations in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), Diakonia cooperates with several partner organizations working locally in Israel/Palestine.

Education/information and monitoring partners

  • Al-Haq was established by a group of Palestinian lawyers in 1979 as one of the first human rights organisations in the Arab world and has produced some of the first studies ever written using humanitarian law to analyse a situation of occupation.

  • The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) was founded in 1972 as a non-political and independent body, with a goal of protecting human and civil rights in Israel and in the territories under Israeli control.

  • The Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR), based at the Harvard School of Public Health in Cambridge, is engaged in research and advisory services on humanitarian operations and the protection of civilians in conflict areas.

  • Al-Quds Human Rights and IHL Clinic (AQHRC) was established in September 2006 at Al-Quds University. It offers law students the opportunity to acquire academic understanding and practical legal skills while working with Palestinian human rights lawyers.

  • B’Tselem, the Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, was established in 1989 by a group of prominent academics, attorneys, journalists and Knesset members endeavoring to document and educate the Israeli and international public and policymakers about human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

  • Al Mezan is a Gaza based Palestinian human rights organisation founded in 1999. Its main activity consists in monitoring the situation in the Gaza Strip and educational and information related activities.

  • HaMoked, the Center for the Defence of the Individual, is a human rights organisation offering free legal and administrative aid and advice to Palestinian residents of the Israeli occupied territories and victims of human rights violations. HaMoked operates a comprehensive legal online internet data base focusing on human rights and IHL.

  • Mossawa, the Advocacy Center for Arab Citizens in Israel, is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that works to promote human rights and equality for the Arab-Palestinian
    citizens of Israel.
