Diakonia's priority areas

Diakonia works for a just world where all people live a life in dignity, peace and security. We have activities in about 30 countries in the world as well as in Sweden. On the basis of analyses we focus our work where we believe it to be most effective. Here you can read about our areas of focus.

Five main themes for our development work

In the work that Diakonia carries out together with local partners we have five common themes:

Also, we work with mainstreaming the problems caused by the HIV/Aids pandemic. Environmental and climate issues are also integratied into all relevant parts of our work.

Advocacy in Sweden

Diakonia has its base in Sweden. It is thanks to our donors there that we can carry out our work in the rest of the world. In Sweden we work with popular education, mobilization and advocacy. We want to create awareness and also influence defined groups in society, so that they can act for a just world.

The head office in Sweden also works with fundraising and coordination and developing methods for our our global development work.

Sweden and the world

The work that Diakonia carries out in the rest of the world goes hand in hand with the work we undertake and support in Sweden.

One example is the work for social and economic justice. Some of our partners work with fair trade on a local level. Others work with the same issue, but on a national or regional level, often in large networks. And in Sweden Diakonia works with advocacy in order to improve Sweden's and the EU's politics on trade.
