Tanzania

Diakonia’s presence in Tanzania is relatively recent, and our geographical focus is in the Lake Victoria region. The current partner organisations work within the Lake Victoria Livelihood Program, targeting fishing communities.

Support to people living with hiv and aids

Within the program, Diakonia supports work on HIV and aids awareness and mitigation, promotion of social justice for people living with or affected by HIV/aids.

Economic empowerment

Another key component is economic empowerment for fisher-folk living around the lake. Together with the communities Diakonia and partner organizations identify new possible sources for income, thus making the people living near the lake less dependent on unsecure incomes from fishing.
