The IHL Centre is a leading, independent group of legal experts in international humanitarian law. We provide both global analysis and context-specific support grounded in regional knowledge and experience.

The IHL Centre works with humanitarian, human rights, academic, diplomatic, media and civil society actors to strengthen respect for IHL.

The IHL Centre is made up of three geographical context units, supported by a technical and engagement unit.

The IHL Centre was founded to promote respect for the laws of war and to increase the protection of people in conflict zones. 

The Middle East Unit covers Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, and Qatar.

The Africa Unit works across the African continent, with a particular focus on the Sahel, East Africa, the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

The Israel/Palestine Unit provides legal expertise to support humanitarian and human rights action in the Israeli-Palestinian context.

The IHL Centre develops practical tools and provides specialised technical guidance to support humanitarian actors, civil society organisations, journalists, policymakers, and other stakeholders working in situations of armed conflict.
