The IHL Centre & the media
How we support the media
The IHL Centre regularly provides briefings, training and expert support on IHL to journalists and other media professionals. We support media actors in understanding and accurately applying IHL concepts and terminology in their reporting on armed conflicts and humanitarian crises.
Our experts can provide practical guidance on key legal issues, including the protection of civilians, humanitarian access, the conduct of hostilities, displacement, detention, and the protection of humanitarian and medical personnel. Contact us here for any IHL related queries.
We also develop practical tools and resources designed to support non-legal audiences engaging with IHL. These include the Stockholm Manual: A Practitioner’s Guide to Conducting IHL Assessments and Advocacy, which is intended to help humanitarian practitioners, diplomats, journalists and other stakeholders better understand IHL and more effectively integrate credible legal analysis and advocacy into their work.

Media appearances
Experts from the IHL Centre are regularly approached by international media outlets, including the BBC, ARD and Al Jazeera, to provide commentary and analysis on a wide range of humanitarian and IHL-related issues.
