The Manager will lead a dynamic team of legal, advocacy, and programming experts at the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre, Jerusalem. The managers will oversee the management of the team, lead the strategic development of the desk, ensure compliance to internal standards, and will play a significant role in the management team of the IHL Centre as a whole.

Role & responsibilities:

Supervise and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans, research and advocacy strategy and activities, as well as internal processes of the Jerusalem component of the Diakonia IHL Centre.

Represent the Diakonia IHL Centre at a senior level in key regional and international networks.

Lead and mentor Jerusalem based staff

Actively participate and support in the development of Diakonia’s IHL Centre, including by maintaining close communication and collaboration with the IHL Manager based at Head Office.

Maintain and develop strategic contacts with relevant actors and partners, including existing and potential back-donors, networks, partner organizations and like-minded organizations;

Present legal briefings, trainings and presentations to relevant target groups

Minimum qualifications:

Degree in law (JD or LLM) with specialization and/or experience in international humanitarian law, international human rights law and international criminal law; 

Five to ten years of experience working in the field of human rights, humanitarian law, or international law;

Three to five years of management experience;

Familiarity with donor reporting and relations;

Budget management experience.

Excellent analytical, research, writing and editing skills;

Excellent communications skills, in particular in public speaking;

Strong knowledge about the oPt and Israel context and specific legal issues subject to analysis;

Outstanding level of English writing proficiency; 

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility and sense of humour.

Preferable qualifications:

Command of Arabic and/or Hebrew advantageous;

Command of French an asset.

Experience working in one or multiple conflict affected environments;

Start date: 1 April 2020
Employment type: 1 year contract (wtih the possibility of extension)
