This Diakonia website, called "Easy Guide to International Humanitarian Law in the occupied Palestinian territory", is part of the information component of the International Humanitarian Law Programme. The goal of the website is to provide basic information about international humanitarian law in general. It specifically analyzes the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory from an IHL perspective in easy language for non-lawyers. Our website policyThe analysis provided in this website reflects Diakonia's perspective following Diakonia's position paper and does not intend to voice approaches of either one of the parties to the conflict. It also does not cover all possible relevant topics but focuses on specific common questions. This website primarily engages with the obligation of the State of Israel, as the occupying power, towards the Palestinian population within the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) following the 1967 war. It is important to stress that all individuals are obliged to follow IHL, no state is above the law and no individual is outside the law. When referring to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) we refer to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank including The terminology used on the website is based on official names and titles of persons and organizations as formally registred and does not necessarily reflect nor imply the view of Diakonia. The website is a work in progress. |
