Diakonia is the joint international development organisation of two Swedish churches. Our head office is situated in Sweden. We have regional offices in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America as well as local offices in most of the 35 countries where we have partner organisations.
Our general assembly meets at least once a year. It consists of eight representatives from the two denominations that are on the Diakonia board.
The assembly elects the board and the secretary general. It also decides on the general frames for our finances.Diakonia's statutes
Board and secretary general
The board, with seven members, has the overall responsibility for Diakonia's work and actions. Members of the board come from the two denominations that form our support base in Sweden.
The secretary general is the chief executive. One important task for this function is to represent Diakonia in different forums and situations. Another is to secure that decisions taken by the assembly and board are carried out.The Diakonia board
Diakonia's head office is situated close to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The staff work with fundraising, education, information, mobilisation, advocacy and administration. Co-ordination of the international development work is of course also an important task. It is also from the head office that overall policy, methodological and mainstreaming work is being led.Read more about Diakonia in Sweden
Regional and local offices
Diakonia has regional offices and also local offices in a number of countries where we have partners. It is from these that the co-operation work with partners takes place, as well as monitoring and evaluation of the efforts.Read more about where we work
