1st Monitoring Forum of IHL violations in the oPt, 13 June 2007, Ramallah:

On 13 June 2007, Diakonia organized the first forum on monitoring of IHL violations in the occupied Palestinian territory. The forum was held in Ramallah with participants from major Palestinian, Israeli and international organizations working with monitoring IHL violations. 

The purpose of the forum, and a number of upcoming events and seminars on monitoring that Diakonia will organize throughout 2007-2008, is to improve the quantity and quality of monitoring IHL violations in the oPt, as well as to enhance coordination between the various monitoring actors.

Representatives from B'Tselem, Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, Mattin Group, Palestinian Center for Human Rights, Al-Haq and UN Office for Cordination of Humanitarian Affairs, shared their experiences of monitoring IHL violations with the audience.

The continued discussion dealt with why it is important to do monitoring, and how its use and quality can be improved.

A steering committe was formed to prepare for a seminar, which purpose is  to proceed with the improvement of IHL monitoring in oPt.

IHL and Religion


A seminar on the inter-relation between religion and international humanitarian law.
