Diakonia's work is financed by gifts and donations from individuals and congregations in Sweden, by grants from the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the EU, UN, embassies and other international financiers. 93 out of 100 SEK goes directly to the field work93,3 percent of the donations that Diakonia receives goes directly to our operations (2008). The major part of these funds are used for the development work with our policy themes: human rights, democratisation, gender equality, social and economic justice and peace and reconciliation. Why does it cost money to mediate aid?4,4 percent of Diakonia's overall financial turnover is used for administration (2008). Some of the resources used for administration go to salaries and office rents. Others are used to cover costs for planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of our work. Costs for fundraisingAbout two percent of the annual turnover is used for fundraising activities in Sweden (2,3 percent in 2008). Thanks to an agreement with the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Diakonia gets up to nine SEK* for each SEK donated to us. This means that a gift to Diakonia's work is often multiplied several times!
* SEK is the abbreviation of the Swedish currency
