Advisor on human rights and democracy
Diakonia is currently looking for an advisor in human rights and democracy with special focus on Cambodia. The position is placed at our regional office in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and can applied for until the 8th of January 2016.
Placement: Diakonia Regional office in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Planned starting date: February 2016
Duration: 2 years with possible extension
Participate in planning, development, implementation and reporting of the Cambodia country programme on the basis of our project management tools and other steering guides and documents.
Support partners’ advocacy initiatives and coordinate with likeminded actors in Cambodia and the region
Advice Diakonia partner organizations in Cambodia and the region on international lobby/advocacy on Human Rights and Democracy.
Participate in the resource mobilization.
To represent Diakonia in networks and coordination mechanisms of relevance.
Qualification and experience
Long term experience of international development work in the field with an in-depth understanding of the role of civil society and an inclusion of equity and equality perspectives in development processes.
University degree in a field related to the position (development studies, democracy, gender, human rights or similar).
Good insights/overview of lobby/advocacy initiatives in Cambodia and in the region and preconditions for linking with other similar initiatives.
Minimum four to five years job experience of lobby/advocacy, development work, programme development, budget control, and field level monitoring using LFA and Rights based approach.
Experience of working with gender justice.
Ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written English and Swedish.
Strategic and analytical ability.
Personal maturity and social skills.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
Capacity to work in teams, as well as taking own initiatives and work independently.
Good administrative skills and well-organised.
Good computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Experience from working with member based networks/organizations.
Experience of working with CSOs and donors.
Experience of working with European Commission and/or other potential back donors.
Experience of working with fundraising and proposal writing.
Knowledge of Diakonia.
