Sustainability

The use of natural resources and energy in unsustainable ways causes climate change and environmental degradation. This is a hinder to poverty reduction and the right to a life in dignity. People living in poverty have contributed least to climate change but suffer the most from its impacts. Here you can read about how Diakonia works to contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources and to limit our environmental impact and promote sustainable development.

People living in poverty have contributed least to climate change but are most vulnerable to its effects. Therefore Diakonia want to contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources and to climate change and its effects.

Unsustainable use of natural resources and energy leads to climate change and environmental degradation. It is an obstacle to poverty reduction and the right to a dignified life. It can even undermine development progress already made.

As an international organization working for sustainable change for poor and vulnerable people and groups around the world, Diakonia has undertaken to limit its negative impact on the environment, as well as to simultaneously enhance the positive sustainability impact of their work. Since 2016 we have adopted an environmental policy for the entire work of the organization, as well as a plan for developing a system for monitoring the environmental work being done.

The environmental policy states that Diakonia must:

  • Support sustainable development and advocating for climate justice
  • Manage our environmental impact
  • Minimize the environmental impact from travel and vehicle use
  • Ensure environmental friendly offices
